I found this on Netgalley when I was on a bit of a sci-fi binge. I had never heard of it but it was a lucky find, because it was exactly the kind of thing that I wanted. A cross between something with some meaning to it (this has Big Questions about memory) but also, there's a plot! Things happen to the characters! So, it was right up my alley.
Short synopsis: When a mysterious Signal is detected coming towards Earth from space, a young man who may have been involved in an alien abduction in his childhood re-questions all his memories and all the stories he has told and has been told about what happened to him. He and his best friend disappeared from the room they were sleeping in and never could remember how.
He had pretty nearly put the question behind him, until the Signal began freaking everyone out. Is it a weapon? Is it the government? Or do they know what it is and won't tell us? And so on. The Signal is creepy, the questions around What Happened kept me guessing, and I was rooting for the main characters.
I really liked this book. It would be good sci-fi for people who don't really like sci-fi, good literary fiction for people who do like sci-fi. It comes out June 16th and there's a good amount of buzz, so if you don't want to buy it, your library likely has it available to place a hold.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the early read.
